Tuberculosis is declining

Did you know that...

...Because Finns succeeded in implementing a strategy of education, health enlightenment, screening and medical treatment to almost the whole population, tuberculosis was brought under control. Treatment periods were simultaneously shortened and hospital beds were released for other purposes.

Jaa:

Tuberculosis is declining

A new Tuberculosis Act came into force on Jan 1st, 1961, which expanded the scope of operations for the tuberculosis sanatoriums and the federations of municipalities by mandating cost-free treatment for tuberculosis patients.

Better medicines brought about a tremendous advance in the treatment of tuberculosis. Patients felt that they had far better chance for recovery and sought treatment earlier. Medical care shortened the time spent at the sanatorium, and ultimately rendered the whole traditional sanatorium institution unnecessary.
