Patients start lobbying

Pikonlinna Patient Association (former names: Central Häme Association of Tuberculosis Patients, Central Häme Patient Association and Central Häme Tuberculosis Association) was founded in 1941. Today the association is known as the Breathing Association of the Kangasala Region and it is also an affiliate of the Breathing Association Heli and the oldest breathing association in Finland.

Patient Association was established, because patients needed an interest group to further their cause. Association addressed the financial problems their members faced. Long hospital stays generated problems for many and medicine was expensive. Association started to pay for its members tuberculosis medicine and grant financial aid to students.
